Fifty-three families looking for a new beginning board a ship and sail to an uninhabited island. Happily they live for nearly two decades. Homes are built and the past is forgotten. Paradise, however, is no more after the adults suddenly vanish one night. For three years, the teens and children rule the island of Oridd. For three years, they survive. When an old woman unexpectedly appears on Oridd, all is cast into disarray as the strange and awful threaten to become commonplace. The old woman wants something, and she won’t leave until she gets it.
This was not quite what I was expecting. But I loved it! I find it refreshing when you finally read something that hasn't been written a million times before. Or various versions of it. At least this is a new one for me. The beginning has a bit of a slow pace. There is a lot of information to take in. The world building and character development is spot on. I was captivated after the first few chapters. I just had to know what in the hell was going on! The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because there were a few moments where I did get a little confused with things. I feel it was only because there was a lot of information and history to take in early on. I will be recommending this to a few people! This is an ARC review
