The Shade Amulet - Andrea Pearson

Use her magic to stop fires. Bombs. Guns. Her night job is entirely different. She must hunt and kill evil creatures—shifters set on devouring her. Vampires that drain their victims' blood before consuming them in flame. And without the Shade Amulet, it's impossible. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the Amulet yet. She isn't the type to sit and wait, though. Luckily, neither is her partner. Abel's past is dark, his motives unknown. He's secretive. Attractive. Powerful. Very powerful. And he's willing to help. But will he destroy them both in the process?

I recently had the chance to read this ARC. It is marked as a can be read as a standalone but has another series it coincides with. Which I haven't read and I felt like I was missing something the entire time. It kept referencing things that previously happened, to which I had no clue what they were. It didn't really hinder what was going on, nor did it really take away from what this series is going to be about. It just irritated me personally, I didn't like not knowing the history with the characters. Since it seemed like there was quite a bit, from the previous series.

This was a fast paced read, so to someone it might night even make a difference. The world building did completely lack in my opinion. I feel like this might be because of the whole previous series that it goes along with.

Upon further inspection, the previous series that it goes along with is 9 books long. So I feel that should be kept in mind when debating on starting this series if you haven't read the first one. The first book is free on Kindle I might add as well.

All in all my final thoughts are that this is a fast paced, easy read. I liked it for the most part. It is a 3.5 rating in my book. I just wish it explained a little bit more than it does and had a bit more world building as well. Since it can be read without reading the first series.
